May & June 2021
Hello Folks, It’s great to see so many new talented team members joining us. Welcome to all!
We are entering summer in very interesting times. The economy is coming back very strong. COVID restrictions are disappearing all over the place, and we find ourselves incredibly busy with rapid growth on the horizon, just as it’s starting to warm up 😊 I’ll take it! There are definitely worse problems to have than lots of work to do in the summer. Let’s work hard and play hard for the next couple of months…two things that Longbow excels at!
Thank you all for your hard work and dedication, and I look forward to seeing everyone soon!
I was born in a small mountain village in Albania; my family immigrated to America in 1967. In the 1960s, Eastern Europe was not the land of opportunity, so my parents packed up two suitcases and their two boys and came to America. It was a bit of a struggle, but only struggles that I have been told about. My father worked two years without a day off to save enough money to buy his own small restaurant in Aurora, Il. As the chef and partner in the business, he built a loyal following of customers for 25 years. I grew up in the restaurant business but was always looking for a way out. I finally did, in 1998. I have two wonderful children Fetim and Emine. They both are in the medical field and have had to overcome very interesting professional hurdles in the last 14 months. I am married to my wife Sebeat for thirty-plus years. I was the suburban boy who drove 45 mins one way just to talk to her for 15 mins and eventually won the city girl's heart.
Fun Tidbits about John:
My first new car payment, including insurance, was $115 a month.
I received my MBA in the Spring of 2014. I had two finals and a successful go-live (Cranbury, NJ "with Sasha") for that last semester. My brain hurts just thinking about it. Very interesting side story: in one week, Sasha and I ran into people from our home countries in Cranbury, NJ. I wonder what were the odds of that happening?
I am a big Chicago Sports fan and my best fan moment was when I met and shook the hand of the Late Great Walter Payton.
I just started working out again. Hot Yoga, the best low-impact workout for someone with old sports injuries.

ReNu Medical is a medical device reprocess/sterilization company focusing on green sterilization practices that do not utilize chemicals or harm the environment. For their Rebus project, ReNu will store non-standard SAP B1 data elements for serialization, track and trace, and FDA audit reporting. ReNu can process and create over 30,000 new serials in a single day, and each reprocessed medical device has to be tracked and has a limit on how many times it can be sterilized/reprocessed. Over time, ReNu hopes to leverage Rebus to perform rapid queries on sterilization eligibility to improve their operational processes. Shout out to Kelly Walter for making this happen.
Aritzia is a high-end women's fashion boutique headquartered in Canada, with stores throughout Canada and the US. Aritizia is in the process of upgrading their Vancouver, BC warehouse instance of Blue Yonder as well as migrating it to the cloud. In addition, Aritzia will be adding a mezzanine to the facility along with some automation and a WCS. Longbow has been contracted to help them port their customs to the upgraded version, consult on the mezzanine WCS to WMS integration, and then begin consulting work to design another large warehouse in Toronto. The engagement should continue to build over the next 18 months as they grow their warehouse footprint and upgrade their technology. Special thanks to Kelly Walter for making this happen.

After surveying supply chain and warehousing executives about their use of warehouse visibility technology and research found that most agree that such systems can improve performance in the warehouse and across the broader organization. Nearly 300 C-suite executives, vice presidents, directors, and managers from across the United States responded to the survey, officials said. More than half said they are seeing between a 5% to 10% increase in efficiency from their warehouse visibility technologies, and a quarter said they’re seeing between a 10% and 15% efficiency gain.

In the complex and fast world of warehousing, relatively small changes can have far-reaching effects. Small changes in the warehouse tracked in real-time can generate more revenue, increase customer satisfaction, and optimize labor productivity. The benefits of having warehouse visibility are growing, and the sooner companies have access to this technology, the better the results. On the Logistics Matters podcast with DC Velocity, Alex talks about the growing need for warehouse visibility and why most organizations expect too little from their service providers.
